I have a Westerbeke 15KW (1985). This past weekend I wanted to give her a little workout because she has not been used in a month or so. The battery ended up being dead and old so I got a new battery and fired her up with no problems. After about a minute I loaded her up with the 3 ACs, fridge, ice maker, water heater and the usual load. Everything was fine for about 20 min, then I started to hear a whining that got louder as time went by. It did not sound good and I have never heard it before. I started to turn off breakers and take off the load, as I did this the sound went away. I waited a little and then loaded it back up, about a minute later the whining came back. Took the load off again and the noise went away, I then shut it down and had a beer. I would assume that the problem is on the generator side, maybe the bearing? If it was the belt or water pump I would think that I would have the noise whith no load, but it really did not sould like a belt and i wouldnt be that lucky. Has anyone had any issues like this?
