I'm looking for a good wharehouse kinda place for electronics. I used to use Consumers Marine but they have been bought out by some other company and now they're tech advice is useless. I'm in FL so someplace in this state would be great.

I bought full package of Garmin from http://www.getfeetwet.com/ last year, best prices I could find (bought all new, except radar which was refurbed). They ship out of California, but you save on sales tax and shipping was cheap. Saw a couple of other post in past where people bought from them and had good experience too.

I did talk to the guy there too - he seemed knowledgable and after talking to him for about 15 minutes he knocked even more off the price. Could also be worth a call to see what his 'best' price is.

How does this work if you want someone else to install it? Better to buy from them? Or buy your own and hire someone to install it? I know in the somewhat near future I will be putting in new radar and new autopilot. But I also know I am not comfortable doing it myself...

Really? For a new fender I recently bought, they were about 25% HIGHER than West Marine! I was SHOCKED!

I second the motion for getfeetwet.com in California. I also bought a full Garmin package (minus radar) for hundreds less than everyone else's "best price." Good support for accessories as well...

I suggest you check www.boatfix.com before buying. On their home page is an "electronics" section indicated. Click on that and take a look. Great prices and service from my experience.

If you are willing to consider used electronics, E-Bay boat parts often has recent electronics at roughly 1/2 retail....I have had excellent experience there and base my buys on the % satisfied ratings provided by buyers....sellers generally need good reviews and so seem honest about representations....

For electronics, BOE (in Annapolis) offers the best balance of price and great personal service and product/installation knowledge. BoatFix has excellent prices, getting service can be a little sketchy, but they are knowledgeable about electronics.

Dave, try Midshore Electronics in you neck of the woods. Super balance of price and installation prowess. BOE would be another alternative.

Brian the people at bethel in Rockledge are great for support and pretty fair with prices but sometime you do need to nudge them a bit. I can always buy something cheaper without good support but they have very knowledgeable people there.

I will second BOE. He will also give you boat show prices the same week as a boatshow. IE, Ft. Lauderdale, Miami and other large shows.

I have had good luck at Dave's Marine. Ships fast, no sales tax in most states, and very competitive. BOE may be a bit lower, but they are local to me, so I would have to pay sales tax.

In Florida, Bethel marine generally has teh best prices and best tech support. I can not say it is without exception, but they have been fairly consistant. Good Luck!
