What would happen ….?

Curious what would happen if you had the sync on and brought the engines back to an idle and then shifted one of them into reverse with the sync still on …?

Re: What would happen ….?

Both back at idle, mostly nothing. But when you try to bias one of the engines up in a pivot, could be interesting.

Re: What would happen ….?

I accidentally do this all the time and have not paid a price for it.

The boat spins lopsided in the direction of the motor remaining in forward until I turn the synchronizer off.

I am curious to hear if these mistakes will add up to a bill someday.

Re: What would happen ….?

When I first got the boat, I experimented a little bit with running the engines up at 700 rpm instead of idle (550) for close quarter maneuvering.

I would do that with the sync on and I don't think it caused a problem, I just decided it wasn't really necessary.

But, it would keep both engines at 700 and I could shift.

Re: What would happen ….?

I think we all have forgot to turn the sync off at times. For many years now I turn it off during my landing check list I run thru my head.
Wind, current, approach plan, sync off, lines ready, wife ready, kats secured, guess secured and more??
