Any suggestions regarding a brushable 2 part polyurethane to use to repaint the aft deck once the repair work is over? Is 2 part poly available in low gloss?

The current paint is Imron Hatteras off-white. I've used Interlux Perfection on other boats and a cast iron bath tub with good results, but that seems too glossy and I don't know which white would match the Hatt color.

I would like to put down a primer soon and need to know the paint to know which primer to use.

Thanks,

Use Awlgrip with their GripTex beads and their flattener if it is too shiny for you. also their brushing converter, and brushing reducer. You do have to give it a week to set up completely before hard use like walking on it, but I suspect they are all like that. Properly applied and allowed to cure, it wears very well.

The nonskid particles will break up a lot of the gloss but you could add a little flattener. I wouldn't add too much as it tends to make the surface more porous . Any of the awl grip primers are good or any name brand 2 part hi build epoxy will work. If you could get it sprayed it would save you a bunch of sanding. Although rolling tends to beat brushing the primer. The epoxy primer sets up so fast that it doesn't level out.

Right. I also think the flattener makes the paint less resistant to UV, because it doesn't reflect as well, it gets hotter or something. I am probably going to leave the flattener out when I paint my decks during the current paint job. We'll see. I think the nonskid breaks up the shine enough.

Thanks,
When/if I get the deck put back down, I may just put down an epoxy primer to cover things and watch and learn from Jim when you paint your deck.

For a very professional looking job that is easy to do and easy to clean, try this process (it is a two man job).

After all fairing and priming is done roll on a thin coat of Algrip. As you roll, have a second person spray on a very very light mist of 'Shark skin' non-skid additive dry from a paint spray gun. The guy with the spray gun will be working over your shoulder so he can spray away from the wet edge. After one day dry time, vacuum up any non-adhered grit and roll on another coat of full gloss Algrip. It took about 8 oz. of Shark skin for the decks of my 48MY. The result is a gloss finish that looks flat, and really provides a good grip to bare feet or shoes .. wet or dry. If you skinned a knee on it, it would be like skinning it on 180 grit sand paper. It's raining out, so I can't get a picture to post but it really provides the best looking non-skid job that I have seen.

I like that non-skin application. Thanks Bob

Can anyone tell me what color Awlgrip will match the old Hatteras color? I probably need to order the paint.

Awlgrips Hatt color is oyster white
