The answer is...... My cell phone tonight....

Got off the boat, had a phone call....... picked the phone up and dropped it...... bounce.....bounce.... SPLAT.

The ONLY upside to all this was..... I never spilt a drop of beer from the full can I had in my left hand at the time.... (and it WAS open mind you).

Now if ONLY I had backed up all the phone numbers I had on it....Almost 300 at last count.

But it's time to get an upgraded one anyway, I've heard they now actually have cells that contain cameras in them now days....

What goes bounce, bounce....SPLAT? "Freebird"?

Just kidding...sorry, I couldn't help it. That was the first thing that instantly popped into my head when I read the title of the thread before opening it. :D

i've yet to drop a phone in the water (shoudl probably keep my mouth shut...).

well... i've dropped on in the bilge a few years ago...

yeah... they even have have some that play music when they ring.... who'd want that.. IT IS A F----G PHONE ! it's supposed to ring not play mozart ! :-)

you know, lots of phones back up to your computer fairly easily.....:p

The water is the best place for a cellphone anyway!

A few years ago, I was getting off my boat and my Sprint cell phone went in the water between the boat and the dock. First thing I did was borrow my girlfriend's phone and dial mine, to see if we could hear it ring from the bottom (it's only about six feet). Nope. Second thing I did was to call Sprint to get a replacement. Third thing I did was to get a phone with another company, after the Sprint folks were jerks about a replacement and wanted full price for any phone they had..even with a contract extension. The phones only seem cheap when you sign up.....if someone pulls out the plug around here and the water goes away, there are going to be an awful lot of cell phones lying on the bottom.

I have dumped 3 in the water myself. If you get it out of the water right away and immediately remove the battery. Wash the phone in fresh water shake out as much water as you can and let set for a few days to dry it out. They will most of the time work again. I have done this to about 10 phones. Its the battery that goes bad most of the time. It will short out inside. It depends on the amount of charge it had when it went swimming.

Phones have an uncanny seeking ability to find the crack between the boat and dock and go straight through it.

Been there, done that. Its kinda like a golf ball around a water hazard.....

as said above, take the battery out ASAP and then put the phone in the oven at the lowest temp level, usually 175-200 F for a few hours and it will work. Just did it for my friend but now she has to have polarized sun glasses on to see the caller id display on the outside flip. the inside screen works fine.

Get the Gzone. its submersible. yes submersible for 30 minutes in some reasonable depth. Its Mil spec and solid as a rock to. I have yet to test the water proof claim but the phone has been solid so far.

I haven't dropped one off of the boat (yet). But I did drop one into a toilet. I grabbed it out, rinsed it off, and then pulled the battery and set it on top of my boiler in my office building. It came back to life in a few hours.

Phones just obey Murphy's law like any bit of gear on a boat.
If a wrench is dropped in the BILGE, it will magically bounce overboard. Tools have a magnetic attraction for deep water, and can levitate many feet to cross a seemingly impossible obstruction to reach it.
It's VOODOO I tell you.....VOODOO!!
