  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
45' CONVERTIBLE-Series II (1984 - 1992)
On my 45C -1990 many screws for hinges, handles, hooks etc. do not grip in the wood any longer. How do you solve this, drill and insert wood plug or do you fill the hole with glue or something?

for small holes I snap off pieces of toothpicks, med and large I use dowel plugs

Many many ways to fix this. Easiest would be dip a tooth pick into some white glue and insert till it bottoms out. Break it off flush and put in a new screw. If water gets near this use caulking to seal the screws. Harder way is to drill out the hole and glue in a matching wood plug. Good luck.

Through bolt it, washer and nut on the backside.

I fill with thinkened epoxy and redrill

I cut the end of plastic zippy tie and insert then screw in. Works great

That’s a new one. Do you use it foe wood and fiberglass or just wood?

I have good results with pushing JB weld in the hole. Then drill the right size hole for the screw.

I've threaded thicker parts but not cored parts.

I drill, tap and test screws fit. Sometimes I coat the threads with thin epoxy and reset the screw.

Thanks to all of you for your solutions
