  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
42' LRC - Mark II (1980 - 1985)
I have found several of these attached to the hull. They look like speakers and have small speaker looking type wire. In the first picture you can see 2 black rings where others have been removed. I have found them in various location in bilge areas.

Thanks,
Roger

Looks like one of those electric anti-fouling systems that have been tried over the years.

Or possibly ozone generators, which are believed to reduce bilge smell, but in fact destroy the rubber in hoses and gaskets.

I am kinda on your side where is the boat lockated or better yet where did the boat come from. Was it so at one time that viberation was used to keep ice from forming ?? Some of the older guys shurely will know. WHAT A GRATE QUESTION!! TIM

No idea what they are but if they're for anti-fouling, I would think they would be mounted below the water line not up near the deck.

Re: What are these-Why?

Okay, the anti-icing thing sounds right. All but the one in the picture (it's at the water line) have been on the bottom of the hull. I have found them under the aft head floorand in the rudder area. There are a couple of other things that point to the boat have come from the north east.

Can not stand it!! Hook 110 to one and see what it does not any good any way.

I believe they are the remains of an anti-barnacle system (Barnacle-free??) that was advertised in the 80ś as a ultrasonic system that would prevent barnacles from stiking to the hull.

I think that's right. AFAIK they only kept currency from sticking to the inside of the buyer's wallet.

I think they are the locator beacons so the black helicopters can keep track of you.

Neighbor installed this system 5-6 months ago. Worthless, at least here in sw florida
