Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
I am not a Gimmy expert but understand that these may be some antique type of CCV. They are the "filters mounted on top of the engines. If it was your boat, what would you do? PS 8V71TI's
Thanx

Hard to see very well, but they look like oil filters to me, or fuel filters. Am I looking at the right item, the one you are asking about?

Sorry about the photography but I'm refering to the "filters" that are attached to the uprights on top of the engines. I believe they have something to do with crankcase ventilation, based onthe way they are plumbed, but they are definitely not Racors.

Hard to see but if those hoses go to the valve covers then you are correct, they are some form of crank case filter system.

I just installed CCV's and have to say I am very impressed with the Parker/racor system when and if you get around to modernizing.

In my opinion the CCV system is far superior to the Walker AIrsep in that they are just simpler.

They do come from the valve covers so maybe I have all the plumbing and could replace them with Racors. I think the number would be ccv6000 from wwhat I've been able to figure. Probably then need to direct the crud to the engine pan or a bucket. I'm nervous about messing with something that is OK but really have no way of knowing if what Ihave is doinganything!

The N models have a draft pipe off the crankase. Theres a mesh screen under the flange that acts as an accumulator for CC mist so it doesnt all go into the blower intakes. Those green units look like about the same size and I a wondering if those units are merely accumulators as well. Is there a small drain back into the crankase or airbox drains for accumulated oil? ws

I wouldnt rush to swap them becasue of function. Most people who have gone with the racors just put a valve on the unit and I am unaware of anyone who actually generates enough waste oil to warrant all the fuss.

These suystems were designed for continuous duty cycle use so the volume they prepare for doesnt make a whole lot of sense.

I am not sure how the CCV system would hook up to your breathers since they are naturals and my belief is the CCV was designed for turbo models.

I would call parker/racor. they are usually pretty good at talking through the appropriate use of their systems and cautionary advice aside... I am very happy with the way the 6000's worked out in my engine rooms. The OEM "crap cans" I removed took up a lot of room and had a nast habit of tipping over and dumping oil in the bilges in a cross sea.

ccv6000 is the proper size for 8v71's. I just put a ball valve on the drain. I empty them into a paper cup each time I'm at the fuel dock.

I thought Parker discontinued the ccv series..I tried a month or so ago,,and was told nla ??

Dennis, next time you're in Maple Bay you have to stay longer! Then you and I can have a serious look at this "stuff" and try to decide if OK or replace.
