What am I missing?

I had to read that twice , The boat is a 1972 ? the motors are 1999's . looks like a deal for a 72 w/ newer power.

I have looked at way too many hatterases. The price seemed right depending on the condition. I am new to hatteras , I just bought my first hatt, is't my 11th boat/ hope this boat lives up to what I have researched about the hatteras boats in general.

Next week I am going to see this boat for the first time, The survey had a laundry list of maintence items the need attention & the motors came thru looking good.

The boat I bought was owned by a boat owner / not a boater. It was a bank that got it back so as a repo would go I know the basic stuff was not done on this boat. When money gets tight the cost of having a boat goes to the end of the line.

I hope and think 10,000.00 will put her back in shape. As my luck goes It will be more like 20,000.00+ It is a boat so all bets are off.

Well, the boat is a 1972 and the Yanmars are 1999. Yeah, that seems like a good deal to me. Most deals to good to be true, prolly has some hidden surprises. Maybe a local can check it out personnally.

Google up the engine model, factor the hours, and say not for me.

I would say either the broker is not real bright or doesn't know how to write a listing. The boat is a 72, obviously. they have not advertised the hp of the engines, but I suspect it isn't enough to really move this boat by modern standards. And these engines are now 14 years old, which means they may very well have issues of their own. And the boat is not particularly attractive.

There was a similar model on this forum with Cummins 450Cs which sold recently. I think I would much rather have that one. Frankly I would not be interested in this boat even at the price- it would have to be even cheaper than that, despite being a Hatteras and a nice size.

What are they 315 HP maybe? I was thinking under powered as well.

Aren't those engines known for dropping valves?

I belive you are correct but there was a campain on them. There is a boat at the mariner where i stay and they just had a round with a pair. End result a lot of money....and time took a year for the thing to be fixed. Just left the mariner this weekend with a unhappy capt / owner. One reason for the time was the distance the dealer was in Wilmington NC the boat in Morehead city about 1 1/2 hours apart.
