53' CONVERTIBLE (1969 - 1980)
This is not exactly technical so I post it here.

Last Saturday, when we got to the boat I was in sort of a "got to go" frenzy...so urgent that even thou the boat was HOT, ( remember, just got there..no AC yet and sitting in the sun the whole week) I went. Well, let me tell you that after watching all the colors and textures in the bowl the rush to go looked absolutely justified...

And probably you will ask yourself...Jeeez! what sort of freak would look at such a gross show, and on top of it being all sweat over , in a cramped space, etc, etc...

Well, me, that's who.

The pump quit on me...just when it was more needed.

Murphy's Law is unforgiving man....

Aha, only sucking but no water in to flush. I will spare you the details of half wipings and such, but I had to get on my knees, lift the service hatch, fingers crossed that it was only the belt, but no..it wasn't...pulleys were turning merrily but no water.
And my wife asking all the time from behind the door...Are you all right dear?...Why do you take so long?..
We had first time guests you know, and NO WAY I was going to tell...or open the door at that...

What happened was the screw fixing the pump rod to the crankshaft had become loose so I had turning but no pumpin'.Thanks God the screw was still in the rod held by some old grease and it was only a matter of screwing in by hand...Then Pushbutton..and voila!! all the technicolor began swirling around and was gone in no time at all.

I don't have to tell you that I took a 30 min shower,... but not in my boat.

So, I made a note that along with checking hose clamps, hoses, thru hulls, electrical connections, etc.. I have to check that Allen screw.

And enjoy it too,...after all boating is made of such an incredible amount of details, situations, moments....

And then those "happenings" become part of memories, and what are we but memories?

Happy toiletting!

PS. Just in case, when at the Miami Boat Show, I'll make a point of buying repair kits for all the toilets..Just in case.

Everybody with a boat has marine toilet stories. One of the worst was the Groco in a 43DC that decided to "explode" and shoot a stream of waste up onto the headliner when you pushed the flush button. Of course, that too was with guests aboard. It's always good insurance to carry a rebuild kit.

These things usually happen after 10:00 pm, when you have had a couple of "griefbeaters" (thats gin & tonics with fresh squeezed lime made from Beefeaters gin) and are tired as hell after a long day cruising.

Always keep "long arm" industrial rubber gloves that come up to your elbows on board. Also, a pair of extra long needle nose pliers for, uhhhh, servicing vacuum type bowls will save you a lot of headachs of the worst kind.

Guest don't know what to do, and they never get it!

Nothing gets you closer to you guests than having to remove the do not flush products from the head
