When I bought my 1980 60' Sportfish last summer, it was fitted with a Watermakers brand water maker. One thing that I learned living up here in NJ is that you need to have someone local that can service these units. Watermakers, unfortunately, is not one of them.
Last fall, when I was in the process of winterizing this boat for the first time, I hit a roadblock. Watermakers' manual, which came with the boat, had no instructions on how to winterize the system. After calling the company directly, they told me that there was nobody in the area that was an authorized service center and that I should just fill the system with vodka for periods of long storage. At this point I didn't even know if the system worked, but I tried.
I was told that in order to keep the system running correctly during the regular season, you basically have to use it constantly so that all of the filters/membranes continue to work correctly. Since I didn't do that and the previous owner didn't use it in Florida, this system had not been used in about 2 years.
It's an expensive piece of equipment that just takes up space in my pump room. If anyone would like to take a look at it and want to purchase it from me, I'd be more than happy to show it. I think it's a 350/400 gallon per day unit along with some extra parts/filters. I'm here in Monmouth Beach, NJ if anyone is around. If they want to call Watermakers in Florida, the number is 954-467-8920. The system was built 2/20/02 and the serial number is WMS3502rd00sw0. Another number on the system is WMC135592.
