  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
48' MOTOR YACHT-Series I (1981 - 1984)
The water hose connection on my 1981 48MY is leaking. I suspect the connection is not OEM. I tried to unscrew the pot metal Y and could not move it. It appears to be screwed into something that has a 1 1/16" hex nut. All I accomplished is to gouge the pot metal fitting when I tried to unscrew it while holding the nut. The bottom knurled part rotates around what ever part comes out of the toe rail. Any and all ideas on what this is and how to correct it welcome? A picture of the parts are shown. Sorry, I forgot how to make it smaller to fit the page.

I believe the piece in the middle is a male to male adapter. The water connections on the boat and on the Y are both female.

You're going to need some PB Blaster and or some heat to get that unscrewed.

what art said is correct. if you have too, crush the pot metal y adapter and put a brass one there

Take a pair of channel locks and hold the swivel. Grab the nut (did I say that) and twist in opposite directions. If that doesn't work replace the fitting itself with a SS female bib. It's easy to replace. Good luck.

You can hold a hammer as a backup on the female part of the Y and hit it several times directly across from the backup. It should swell the fitting enough to break it loose. Potmetal is no good on a boat.

Thanks gentlemen, I'll have at it shortly.

Done. Beating around the threaded area of the pot metal part loosened it up and the new one went right on....no leaks. Again, many thanks for the advice. I was picturing this becoming one of those classic 10 minute jobs that turn into many hours.
