Water Heater

Anyone know the size of the water heater that originally came in the 43DC? Can't read the specs on the old unit. Also does anyone have experience with a 6 gallon unit? That seems to be the size that will fit in the original space.

We do shower on the boat but we think the original was a 9.

I installed a 7 gallon Bosch several years ago. Works great ! Lived onboard for a couple of years with it and always had hot water. Glass tank and replaceable anode to boot.

Mystery solved! Its a seaward 11gal. They are still available so I am going back with the same unit. It also has piping for using Engine water for heating as well which we are going to use.

My similar boat with the same water heater also has the heat exchanger hookup. Mine isn't connected and never considered connecting it only because to me it seems like one more possible problem if a hose burst or chafed or whatever. I noticed that the replacements are usually cheaper with out the heat exchanger option also.

Anyway , just my thoughts

I like the idea for a couple of different reasons but I will use high dollar hose and hang it properly so no chafing etc.

Russ, I have the heat exchanger plumbed in and it works very well. You should put shut off valves on the engine ends of the hoses. Also, the water in the water heater tank will be very hot when the engine is running- like 180o hot. So watch out if you have kids on the boat or folks who don't know about it.
