Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
It was dead. With a few modifications it fit through the doors no problem. Replacing it with a two-in-one this spring. Will put a matching door in the lower side of the panel, and then put shelves in the upper part for some much needed storage space.

Now that you have torn it apart, you know they will fit through the forward hatch in one piece. If you have any access to a dock with a small boat launching crane, putting in the new unit through the forward hatch is pretty easy. Hope it works out well for you. John

I was alone, and it was night and 32ºF on deck. Once the trim was off the whole disassembly/de-boarding process took less than two hours.

I have found units that have a depth of 22" and will fit through all openings.
 
Having a 220 volt dryer is a big deal for bedding and towels IMHO.
 
I did the same thing years ago. You will recover a huge amount of storage as there is a lot of space behind the dryer due to the shape of the hull

Make sure you get a vented combo unit. The non vented models do not dry well
