Volvo D-12 715hp? Any Info on these.

It seemed like everyone was telling me to stay away from the man's now I found another boat but with Volvo D-12 715hp. What do you think? And is 715hp enough for 52c or are they going to be overloaded.

There's quite a bit to read elsewhere. Have you Googled Volvo D-12? The first thing I wanted to know is are they now owned by the government of China - thay are not, only Volvo Cars are now Chinese owned. I am not familiar with the D-12, I assume that they are new electronic models. I personally have TAMD60C on my other boat and I am very happy with them. The parts may be more expensive than the competition but their service and parts manuals are very good.You have to take into account that I do my boating in S. America where dealer services are inexistent, so I have to make my own repairs and maintenance. Also the quality of the bolts they use. In my case a boat with Volvos would be a deal MAKER not a deal BREAKER. MY humble opinion.

Had TAMD 61's in my last boat. The Volvo parts guy here in San Diego says he can get Volvo parts easier now than any other engine brand, probably due to there ramping up of there parts and service network because so many of the new express type boats now come with Volvo engine packages. Only complaint I had was the Heat exchanger cases were aluminum and I had to replace one that actually warped, but the part cost I thought was reasonable. John
