  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
41' TWIN CABIN (1965 - 1971)
My 1966 Hatt 41TC originally came with the light green faced "Hatteras" gauges. A few of them have failed over the years and a PO replaced them with very modern looking white gauges. If all had been replaced I guess it would offend me less, but what I have is a mix of original and new. I have purchased some original gauges on ebay (from another HOF member as it turns out) and expect them this week. OK, here's the question:

Does anyone here have any experience with a vendor, good or bad, in having vintage gauges rebuilt? I may want to have the purchased gauges rebuilt and my remaining original gauges gone over so they all look good. Any warnings or recommendations appreciated.

Al Schinnerer; California Classic Boats
Pat Powell in Chicago

Both have done Chris-Craft & Garwood guages for me. There is a third one, younger, that used to work for Al. I will find contact numbers if you wish.

Pat Powell rebuilt all the original guages on my '65 Chris Craft Seaskiff when I refurbished her back in 1997. I hope he's still around and well. He was great to work with and did outstanding craftsmanship. They were "as new" when I got them back. Here's the last contact info I had for him:

Pat Powell (847) 455-4918

The usual source in the vintage car field is Palo Alto Speedometer, as noted above. They can rebuild just about anything, although they take a while and are not cheap. You might also look in Hemmings' Motor News under "Suppliers and Services" You did not say who they were made by, but if they are Stewart-Warner (and some old Hatteras gauges are made by SW) they have begun making old-style SW gauges again, although SW is not the same company that is was- the brand was purchased and revived. But that may be of help.

You might also contact Don Wendlich at Isspro, Inc. They do not remake old gauges, but they do have a very wide array of new ones, many of which look vintage, and they are familiar with all the senders made over the years. (I have Isspro tachs in my boat, which have worked perfectly for quite a while now) They may be able to supply you with two sets of gauges which will work with the senders you have, and look original, if it comes to that.

And, finally, you might check with Sam's (Steve) to see if any of the vintage ones are still available. You never know.

post a pick you might get lucky here . I just purchased 15 gages from Madhatter do not really want to but may share one or two. I just want to keep a set. Tim

i have used Pat Powell a couple times on Chris Craft gauges. He only does Stewart Warner gauges.
Dale Kocian also does them.
