Thats a lot of money for some engines.

Yeah that's a great boat right there! Another NJ turd!

So how the heck did the stringers get wet? And more importantly was the plywood just a form and does the fiberglass carry the load? I wonder if it was water ingress through limber holes.

Stringers are plywood and carry the load. Limber holes are not glassed in. Common problem with Viking. Most never notice it until the engines start sagging. I thought they fixed that in the early to mid '90s but this one is a '97. No easy way to fix this.

Amazing to me that the plywood wouldn't be glassed. I had a 1990 28 bay liner ciera 9.5 beam the first year they came out with a five year structural hull warranty. Everything in that bilge was glassed. Great boat. Stringers looked like 4x4's. Can't believe Viking wouldn't glass the stringers. Thats built in obsolecence at it's most absurd level!

I noticed on my Hatteras the limber tubes appear to be glassed in pvc pipes. In any event, I'm anal about keeping my bilge perfectly dry. Once I repacked the rudder and shaft stuffing boxes, no water in the bilge! Now when I see some, I'm on he hunt for the source...loose clamp somewhere, cracked vinyl spiral hose, overflowing drain sump from a failed sump pump, etc. but if the Viking owner had kept his bilges dry, I'm thinking he wouldn't have had an issue.

The stringers are glassed over. The problem is the limber holes expose the plywood core. The 41 Vikings would burn up transmissions due to misalignment from the engine beds sinking. I know of one 48 that dropped an engine and the gear tore a hole in the bottom. They were lucky enough to be able to limp in as this happened about 10-15 miles offshore on thier way back from a canyon trip. I had a friend with one of the last 48s who discovered the bad stringers while chasing down vibration. He kept his boat clean and in top shape. Only way to properly fix it would be to gut the interior and rebuild all the stringers. Viking claimed the plywood was not structural but there is very little glass for the stringers. Definitely not enough to carry the load of the I beam engine beds. I think the fact that the boat is currently at Viking and being sold as salvage speaks volumes for a boat that suffered no accidental damage.

Williams Carlos Williams. Chris Christie. John Mather. (I think)

Bruce Springsteen (communist)
Ice-t (rapper and bad actor)
Martha Stewart (creative criminal)
John Travolta ( scientologist)

Does anything good (or even decent) come out of NJ? lol
Spoken like someone who knows nothing about NJ. I guess this is the same as me feeling that Va is a place where "Deliverance" was a love story.

Haha. But...I lived and worked in NJ once.

I thought deliverance was about what Christie did to the mayor of Ft Lee

Here in Tennessee we always thought of the movie Deliverance as Documentary, now I hear it's fiction, not sure myself. Recall that New Jersey is the GARDEN STATE, farms abound up there..it's by and large an agricultural community. For some reason, people think Newark is the whole state..not! Whitney Houston was fro Carteret, what a voice!

I thought deliverance was some new biblical thing.
