As most of you know, I lost my husband 1-1/2years ago. He is buried in a National Cemetary near our home. Last night I was talking to Bill about going to the cemetary on Veterans Day for the ceremony. Due to work, I haven't been able to attend any of the special ceremonies. This will be my first (Bill is coming with me).
Sooo... this morning I start looking on the internet to see what the program would be. to find out what is happening and when and where. I will have to call but I did manage to find this. It disturbed me... is this something that each President does or is BO just trying to show how great and generous he is? Read and please let me know if this is common. ppat

Like Obama, I'm not a veteran (but can/will produce an original BC copy showing I was born in NC), but I don't remember previous presidents proclaiming Veteran's Day in such a manner. Maybe they just didn't make any big deal about it or try to use it to prove their patriotism or gratitude. It makes it look like Obama just invented it. Outside that, the part about honoring the heroes we have lost seems to be getting mixed up with Memorial Day.

Remember if he convinces the public of it it is true. AGW? Who invented internet?

UPDATE!!!
I called the cemetary....on Veterans Day they are having a great line-up.. the Govenor of Illinios will speak, the Army will do a fly over and the Army band will play some music!!!! My husband was in the Army so that works for me. And of course I will have Bill take pictures and maybe an AVI or two!!!
I still don't understand why BO had to make a big deal out of this...this happens every year. I guess he is still trying to prove he is American.
Mike P. I have pics of Viet Nam in 1968. If you, or anyone else, would like copies I would be happy to send them. I know I have pics of the boats as well as the land and Army bases. Just notify me via PM with your e-mail and we will get to it ASAP. We will be out of town this weekend so it may be next week. ppat

A Presidential Proclamation for Veterans Day is standard presidential fare (google it!)

With thanks for all the sacrifices of our Veterans and their families!

I'm a military retiree w/ 3 decades of service and can confirm that this is done every year. Not sure if it was publicized anymore this year than in previous years, but I remember having seen these proclamations before.

Very happy to see that your area is having the appropriate ceremony, ppat. Thank you so much for your husband's service! Cannot agree with you more that's what we all should be saying rather than focusing on the politics.
