This is a very strange report.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/04/13/florida.boat.accident/

5 killed and 7 injured on a 22 foot boat hitting a docked tug?

I'm sure many of you have transited this area. It's the famous "unofficial" 5 mile long idle zone north of the Palm Bay bridge between Jacksonville and St Augustine.

It will be interesting when we get the "rest of the story".

nothing strange... 12 pax in a 22' boat on a sunday evening? common in Florida waters and when you add alcohol, a receipe for disaster!

Not all that suprising...I've heard of far worse...

That Insanity looks far from Temporary!

We cruised passed that site on Tuesday on our way back to Jacksonville.
I took a few pics of the tug boat, its just sad that people drink and drive/boat.

We are at the landing and last night, a boater 50' cruiser, I'm sure Jax area boaters are aware of him he is a local and frequents the landing. Trys to leave the landing hits the dock (no damage to dock) takes off intoxicated and still partying as he passes the docks a few times coming a bit to close.

The boat tied up stern of us was thinking about leaving the area for fear he would hit our boats.

We docked at The Landing for 3 days the weekend of the Gate River Run about a month ago then did it again 2 weeks ago for the Blessing of the Fleet....
It can be interesting to watch some of the boats dock but MUCH MORE interesting (aka scarey) to watch them try and leave after a few hours of drinking at night...
We normally go anchor out on the East side of the St Johns River directly across from Black Creek, there's a small semi cove we drop the hook at and are WAY away from the channel..
Or will go behind Exchange Island if we have the grandkids with us...
