Has anyone with a 53 MY ever replaced there props with a set of the Veem props, or have you changed the prop size to get your cruise speed up a knot or two? I have been looking at a 53 with the 871 ti --but would like to cruise at 17 Kts.

I can't speak to Veems on a 53MY, but I replaced the (no doubt similar, and just as feeble) OEM Michigan Wheel props with custom made ZFs on my 60C, and the difference was dramatic.
You can probably find my post about it if you search....

I put Veem 5 blades on my 1995 Viking sport yacht, basically motor yacht. I can't say the difference was dramatic. They were smoother and I picked up a knot or so at cruise. Keep in mind my boat is a planing hall with a top speed of 28/29 knots fully loaded. I don't know what the difference would be on your hull. Check around on price the veems were not much more than the others. I think I paid 13,000 and I got them from black dog in md. He is a straight shooter. Whoever you buy props from get them to include two pitch adjustments in the price to get to your desired rpms.

I reached 17kts once during sea trials and our 53' MY had no water and 1/4 fuel, power 8V71N and swinging Nibrel 28" X 28". Now after 5 years and living aboard. I'm happy with the fuel burn at 9kts.
