I am pondering taking the over/under V-Berth bunks in a 48MY and converting the stateroom into a double. It means re configuring he cabinets and both bunks. Does anyone know of a shipwright in Northern Califrnia that can give me an estimate to do that work?

And, I'm thinking about installing a stabilizer system in he boat. Same question?

Recommendations ?

For the stabilizers, decide which brand you want and contact there local dealer, they will have authorized installers, if you don’t use there authorized installers they will not warranty them. The installation of stabilizers is a very technical job, definitely not for dui. John

Chris, ask Rusty.

I spent two years trying to fix a persistent leak wetting the top bunk on my 1966 50MY. Turned out the leak was in the seal to the rubrail which was hidden inside the shelf of the upper bunk. I had assumed this was a simple support for the mattress. Not so. The whole construction was a hollow I-beam adding support in compression to the bow on the starboard side. I then realized the cabinetry on the port side served the same function. I am not an engineer but it appears the enormous forces on the bow from breaking seas are transmitted into the hull in four places: the top deck, the I-beam of the berth and cabinetry, the bow cabin deck and lastly the bow's forefoot. We are frequently in transit on the open ocean and the bow takes a beating. I would recommend consulting a naval architect before changing Jack Hargrave's excellent engineering by altering these structures.

Interesting ....
I'd not have thought of that.
Anyone know if it is the same on the 48 MYs?
