  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
52' COCKPIT MY (1990 - 1999)
I need to replace the blackwater hose between the vacuflush pump and the Y-valve. I'm not familiar with this system just yet so I wanted to ask if there are any precautions I need to take. I'll turn the pump off before removing hose fittings...will there be any pressure in the system that may spray undesirable liquid into the compartment or on me? Is there anything I need to do to return the system to full operation after replacing the hose and turning the pump on?

I would give it several flushs, with a couple of onces of bleach, so whatever does leak does not make you swear, more than normal. Then shut the breaker and hold down the pedal down to release all of the vacuum. Then have at it.

I ll second the above.

There should not be any pressure between the vac pump and the y valve and tank but just to be sure pop the cap on pump out fitting in case the tank vent is clogged

Also, while the Y valve should be above waterline with a symphony break, just to be safe, flip it to tank

Thank you for your advice to keep me from needing to pull the decom shower chain.

Those hoses can be hard as heck to work on. A heat gun can be your friend to soften them up. Dont work too hard without one since they make the job so much easier. Good luck.

All good advise above. One additional item that will make it more tolerable is a 3M Respirator. It will allow you to breath normally and eliminate any odor while you are working. A link below similar to the one I use for such occasions (black water, painting, sanding, etc...). Might be hard to find given COVID, but worth the effort and investment. Best of luck!

Respirator? Lol. If you ve ever dealt with diapers, dealing with hoses or heads is nothing :)
