  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
54' EXTENDED DECKHOUSE (1989 - 1992)
Looking to update my freshwater pumps (currently have a Craftman AC pump which is loud) and am looking for planning ideas.

Should I setup an AC and DC pump?

Any pictures of what your system looks like would help.

Thanks.

Yes ideal setup is both a DC and AC pump. DC pumps are rarely designed for heavy use. Diaphragm pumps for instance have a finite numbers of hours.

Best AC pump without a a doubt is the Headhunter Mach 5. About $1100 and very quiet. Requires a 1” intake though. A close second is the Groundfos Scala2. About $600. Not as much pressure as the headhunter but a good pump.

Thanks Pascal for the info.

Complete agreement to Pascals comments.

Finally installed a HeadHunter Mach 5 pump in our boat. WOW!!

We do also keep a FloJet on line as our DCv pump.

Headhunter 230VAC version?

Headhunter 230VAC version?

They make them 120 or 240v

Only issue is upsizing the intake hose from the tank to 1”. Original Hatteras pipe between tank and pump is 5/8 I think.

We installed a Headhunter XL 24v pump last year. Perfect, quite, protected and no 110v necessary

I recently upgraded my Galley Maid to Flojet. Very simple and quiet.

Mach 5 all the way. Better pressure then dock side. It is very finicky with leaks but once that problem is solved awesome pump!

Thanks for all the info & help.

Shurflow. We have a Galleymaid 120V pump and a 24V DC Shurflo. We run the shurflo. It's quiet and does a great job. Galleymaid is on-off more and loud. I'll say the shurflo may prime better?

I mounted the Shurflow under the Galleymaid shelf with a 90 degree elbow in.
