54' MOTOR YACHT (1985 - 1988)
The attempt to repair the slipping reverse gear shaft that drives the oil pump by re-pressing the gear to the shaft and sealing with loctite did not work. So I bit the bullet and bought a new gear/shaft assembly. Fortunately the mechanic agreed to install it free of charge since the repair was his idea. I thought about keying the shaft/gear joint, but was informed by TD that doing so would void the warranty.

Thanks for letting us know.

I hate to say this, but I think I warned that it probably wasn't going to hold up. Lock-tite is not intended for that job.
 
I suspect the reason that TD has said it will void the warranty is that this part is designed to fail before something far more expensive does.
 
You're both right. I had to try it, though. The good news is that the next person who has this problem won't waste their time if they read the posts.
