  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
Has anyone had experience with this boat insurer. On line quote seems reasonable for my 1989 chris craft 501 in Florida waters over summer...$5,500.00 with agreed value of $208,000.00

Bring her to the Chesapeake instead. Insurance will be half that or less.

No info on United Marine but I was paying around $4500(?) with a higher hull value and FL coverage during storm season from Seaworthy.

I have been using UMU for several years now. No problems.

That is who I have. I have never had a claim so I cant say how that part is.

Your price is in line with what I pay Fireman's Fund for year around Florida and Bahamas coverage. Unfortunately I have heard Fireman's Fund is being bought by ACE, the company that cancelled all Florida coverage, including me, a few years ago because they did not want the exposure. Hope I don't have to go through this again.

Surprised to hear that as ACE was very competitve for FL coverage. I had them but they wouldn't cover me in Fl unless I was living in Fl or owned Fl property. I have friends in Fl who cruise year 'round with full coverage and no restrictions from ACE.

Try Boatus for a quote

BOATUS was insanely expensive for fl coverage during hurricane season unless you are a resident. They wouldn't cover me unless I had a full time capt. or I was local from 6/1-11/15

I've had ACE for last two boats for last 7 years and my boat is on the St Johns river in Jacksonville. I have no restrictions and including Bahamas year round and the rates are competitive.

As for St Mary's where I live, the only marina is Langs and it is dated and not the best for amenities. If you plan to stay long term in GA, they will come after you for taxes and they tax a boat same as a house---Expensive. Also, GA has a no live aboard law. If you decide on GA, the recs for Brunswick and Savannah are on target.

I'll second the Seaworthy recommendation. I'm in Florida year-round, and have charter coverage, and am still a bit lower premium than what you mentioned. I use Joe Kolish as broker. Joe@kolish.net

Thanks all for the replies. So far MUI quote is superior to boat us ($5,000 for agreed hull coverage of $210,000 with coverage only as far south as Jacksonville, Florida and no coverage in Bahamas). I have not had a chance to check out seaworthy yet. I have an out of water survey done in 2013 valuing the boat at $300,000 and like most of you have much more than that into her with upgrades over the last 14 years. I'm told that in todays market I would be lucky to get $160,000 for her. Slowly I am coming to the same conclusion as Freebird....be sure to pick the boat that meets your needs, learn to do the majority of the upkeep and repairs yourself, and don't sell her! Of course, the only problem is sometimes your needs change !

For what it's worth, my Seaworthy coverage extends around the Florida tip and up into the Gulf. Coverage for the Bahamas would be an extra that I haven't received a firm price on, but I believe Joe estimated it to be "a couple hundred dollars".
Your experience with them may of course be different.
