  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
37' CONVERTIBLE (1977 - 1982)
For what it is worth I bought one of these ($50 shipped): because my running gear is a mess, I am too cheap to hire a regular diver, I can not hold my breath long enough to clean the shafts and trim tabs with a straight edge putty knife and I loose 2 knots at least when they are a mess.

As they say "Probably the best and most important feature of the Ultimate Scraper is the prop shaft notch that fits your specific prop shaft" for me 1.75" and that does make the prospect of doing the job possible if still difficult. I tried it Sat and got a lot more off than I ever have before.
I have no interest in the company ect.
Hal
PS it does not float!

Try finding a 30 degree steel elbow for auto exhaust (about 8 - 10 inches long) with an ID that matches your shaft diameter. Hacksaw the top half (the side facing away from the direction of the bend) of the pipe away for about 3 inches on one end. This requires 2 cuts - one half way though the diameter at about 3 inches from the end and then a second cut lengthwise from the end along the center line to the first cut. The result is a 3 inch section of 1/2 round on one end of the elbow that matches your shaft diameter. Insert a piece of wooden closet pole about 2 feet long into the other end, drill and screw to secure well. You can push it with 2 hands along the shaft and make short work of marine growth on the shafts. Only have to rotate shafts once (180 degrees). This rig is low cost, it floats, and lasts a few years if you rinse off the salt water. Can sharpen the 1/2 round scraping end on a grinder if you want to get fancy.

This is the best rig I have found, and it is dirt cheap.

Nice looking tool, Hal. I just ordered one. I also like their fluid dispensing bottle. I never understood why the hole in the trim tab reservoir is only about 1/4" in diameter. Topping it off is a pita. I also picked up their seacock helper, as my stbd seacock is always sticky.

BTW, if my tool shows up before the weekend, I'll be down at Sandy with my scuba gear doing my running gear this weekend. Give me a shout and I'll make you a gin and tonic.

If I am in Napa I look for you!

Hal, have not figured our how to do that, but will take a picture and PM as an email attachment. Boat is at home now off the Potomac, but will spend most of the summer at Solomons.

My Buudy keeps one of those Ultimate Scrapers in the step box. And as a "buddy" of the owner, I find myself using it....a lot. It works well and allows us to clean the intakes, cutlass bearings, props and shafts with one tool. I wish it floated though.

Those guys also have that sea-cock tool. Everytime I service the strainers I use it. It's just stupid simple but it really works well on those hard to reach valves and it sorta glows when you hit it with a flashlight. We just leave it on the vlavle handle. Thx.
