Hatteras Model
41' CONVERTBLE-Series I (1964 - 1971)
'70 41 ft. Convertible. I've got old pressure guages up on the fly bridge that have never worked. The ones at the controls in the cockpit work fine. When we started trying to get the f/b to work, found out there weren't even any lines there. They are direct read guages. When we had new hoses worked up they didn't seem appropriate to handle 350 psi so we sent them back. Now thinking of converting to electric sending units. Any thoughts and/or sources?

You can get the senders from TwinDisc. I would recommend Datcon gauges- I just replaced a set of VDO tachs with Datcons and the quality is MUCH better, not to mention that they are standard sizes, made in the US, and use the same sender voltages/impedances as VDO and some other standard ones. They also cost less, from what I can gather.
Electric drive oil pressure gauges are the way to go. A few years back, I had a direct mechanical drive oil pressure gauge let go inside the flybridge of my Striker 44. Hot oil all over the place. You never saw such a mess. (the Bourdon tube inside the gauge had burst). Engine room senders are less likely to do that, and the readings are just as reliable.

Just a thought: Since you have working pressure gauges at the lower helm, how about installing temperature gauges on the flybridge instead? You can have adequate pressure with extremely high and damaging transmission temps and never know it. Or you can add a pressure alarm and temp gauge on the flybridge; the alarm doesn't take up much space..often just a lamp with buzzer under your console. Then you have the best of both worlds.
