Hatteras Model
43' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1978 - 1983)
My new boat has Twin Disc Model MG5085A transmissions. I'm getting prepared to change the gear oil and filter. The manual refers to the plate on the gear for capacity, and the plate states 0.92 gal capacity, which seems pretty low to me after owning Alisons previously. Does anyone know the correct capacity? I searched the archives on Boatdiesel, and an old post there by Tony Athens way back in Jan of '98 states 6 to 7 qts, which also seems low to me. I'd like to have enough on hand when I drain them so I can finish the job in one visit.

Just to close the loop on this, I pumped them out today and pulled around 3 gal of oil total from both. It sounds like Tony Athens estimate of 6 to 7 qts was fairly accurate.

Unlike the Alison clutches, TD and ZF do not have that much oil in them.
Deep cases and high reduction, do ad capacity.
The plate on your TD is usually just the sump, not counting for oil coolers, remote hoses or filters.

I've got twindisc 514c's, they are 6 gallons each. You can find the manuals online for each model. https://066.8a8.mwp.accessdomain.com/resources/literature/marine-transmission-owners-manual/
Most 514C were drop cases that usually require more oil.
Please show us the page number that gives case capacities in your attachment pointer.

Until then, Case capacity is stamped on the case tag. This does not include anything remote from the case (hoses, coolers or filters).

The 514c come in two forms, deep and shallow case. The one in my boat has the shallow case, 6 gallon capacity. The deep case has a 9 gallon capacity. According to the manual,.

Isn't that's special.

Shame that web site does not have information on our threads topic, TD MG-5085A.
