  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
34' CONVERTIBLE (1965 - 1969)
I had a light oil leak on starboard engine since I got the boat. Now that engines are cleaned up and painted we see the oil below the engine even though it has not been run. Easy to see where it is coming from. It is the fitting to pan connection point. Definitely not the hose or hose connection. Then I noticed the port engine has a new leak in the same location. That hose was recently handled as the turbo's came off for some other work. They are back on now. Guessing the oil level in the pan is above these fittings. They probably don't leak at all when engines are running.

Is this common? Easy fix? Sent pix to my mechanic who is coming out next week to finish and start up port engine but haven't heard from him yet. At least both are easy access even with the floor panels back in.

8-92's

The turbo drain hose returns to the pan rite at oil level. There is a Detroit gasket.
Oil has to pumped out of the engine a good bit to pull the nuts and flush mount hose adapter.

When the hose is installed, most techs use one wrench and tighten the hose to this fitting against the gasket.
Two wrenches must be used to avoid applying to much twist pressure to this hose adapter and reduce any twisting action from the hose.

When I bought my 55C with 12V71's the engine surveyor, an old Detroit guy, told me to only fill the engines half full on the dipstick because they would wind up there anyway. I didn't listen and filled them all the way up. I had to add oil, from various leaks that I couldn't every really figure out, after long runs and between changes. I finally heeded his words and quit adding oil when they got halfway up the dipstick. After doing that I rarely had to add any oil between changes. At the changes I stopped filling at half full. Not sure if it is the same with 92's but might be worth trying.

our 892's leak at the same fitting, let us know what you learn here and thank you!
