  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
48' CONVERTIBLE (1987 - 1990)
Busted a Turbo V Clamp on one of my Covington 8V92’s. It’s the smaller one on the exhaust side. Would anyone happen to know the Part # for this V clamp? I got a new one from Diesel Pro and while the diameter is correct 5.75” in closed, the width doesn’t seem to be right. The new one is much wider. Thanks in advance. F

Have you tried it?

Not yet, but I did post to the DD Boat FB page and you get widely differing opinions. Like just put a 1/2"
strip of Aluminum foil in there, and then the other end of the spectrum....get the proper clamp before you
all die of carbon monoxide poisoning in the salon.

So I've tried, RPM in FLL, Metcalf and cant turn over a number for Covington. The new clamp was from Diesel Pro
for 892 Wet Turbo's. Just seems wider, but that gap may close enough when installed. I'll try it this weekend. Thx.

Whatever you do I'd suggest using some of the turbo sealant in the gap. Diesel pro has it.

V clamps are pretty generic. Just the few vendors make them a bit different from each other.
Western Branch were the last owners of Covington. Also still a leading DDC shop. You can tap on them to make sure.

It is so funny you mentioned Western Branch Diesel. I called Clarke in Greensboro, because
I remember Covington being based there. Spoke to a real nice lady and she said "nope, nope,
nope", anything to do with 2 cycle Detroits and Covington. Our last Marine guy retired 5 years ago.....
and as she hears me sigh, she says why don't you try Western Branch Diesel and gives me
their number. So I speak to a couple of really helpful guys there. They come up with a Detroit
P/N 5148101. So I have one of those coming. Last one they had. So fingers crossed.....

...and now that I am having to learn more about these V band clamps than I ever wanted to, I have
learned that the inside of that clamp is called the "Apex" and they do seem to have different widths.
The wider ones may just pull down further to seal. Not sure, but I'll try it this weekend. Thx.

I cant seem to get a link to it from my phone, but Google "Walker v band clamp size chart". You'll get comprehensive list.

Thank you, also Breeze V Band has a pretty comprehensive chart I stumbled on. And it
looks like there are six different "apex" or "segment width" configurations.

More to come. Thx.
