Has anyone heard how high the Japanese Tsunami wave was out in deep water ocean?? Often they are barely detectable from a surface vessel.

initial reports indicated that the wave was 3' out at sea and rose to 13' once it hit Japan's coast. The wave that hit us in Kauai was reported to be 3' out at sea and rose to 3'-9' at various places around the islands (it helps to be deep right off of shore). The USCG was telling boaters to 1) haul out; 2) if you can't haul, then drive your boat to a minimum depth of 1,000 fathoms, and 2,000 fathoms if you can.
