I'm posting this to hopefully save some else from the hazard I was unaware of.
My Galley Maid windlass has an aftermarket 'down' thrust bearing. It must be lubricated with white spray grease a couple of times a year and a small diameter copper tube was installed for the purpose. Yesterday I was spraying in the grease as Gayle was running the foot switch to exercise the gears when I had a flash fire. It turned out the propellant for the grease was highly flammable and the motor was not explosion proof. The fire lasted only a moment and no damage was done except for a few burned hairs on my hand. As they say, read the directions. Be safe.
