  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
67' COCKPIT MY (1987 - 1995)
Goal: Get 3 staterooms, walk around engine rooms, Hatteras quality.

Limitation: Ridiculously inexpensive (free) under cover slip with 17 feet wide, 50 feet long (can hang out some though) and overhead that 17 feet 10 inches touches at extreme tides with wind surge.

Question: What can I get?

Analysis: It is really hard to tell what true LOA and bridge clearance is on Yachtworld listed boats.

Love 58, 53, and 43 YF's and MY's. Will any fit?

What else would work? Huckins?

Kids are not getting smaller and I am less able to get into a small engine space.

Bruce,

I think there are many M/Y out there that will work, but you just have to find one that has your desires and meets the needs of you family.

I think 50' is about the limit of your size because once you add clearance in the stern for the transom platform and a bow pulpit, you will be over 53'. This will have you out of your slip 5' or so. Are there not any slips without cover at TYC?

How much do you use the flybridge? Could you handle a boat with only a pilot house? There are vessels out there that do not have the need for such a large bridge clearance, but I think certain vessels could be modified to work if you are willing to remove an Arch or have a top that could be folded down before entering your slip.

I am thinking I have one idea, I will send you an email about it tomorrow.

Chris Craft 501 MY is a 53 ED wannabe. Its a great second choice and actually has some things going for it. 1) True walk-in engineroom. 2) Guest stateroom with centerline double, separated from Master SR by the engineroom makes for total privacy. 3) 18 knot cruise is possible. The 501 Chris was built from 1987 to 1990. Most are 3 staterooms, galley down. Some in 1990 were 4 staterooms, galley up. This layout makes the salon tiny. PM or e-mail me for more specifics. No matter what you look at, the quality will not quite stack up to Hatt. The Chris is a reasonable alternative. There's also the 48 Ocean MY (1989 to 1991 or so) We all know about Ocean's rep, but the price is right.
