Hatteras Model
40' DOUBLE CABIN-Series I (1986 - 1989)
We are planning a trip to Block Island and due to work have to figure out the timing for a run from Lincoln Harbor Marina to Block Island at around 15 knots... Our Hatt can go faster but with a nine month old on board don't want to push it. Might be able to leave the friday afternoon before but not sure.

We are joining a raft up for the weekend and will take it slower on the return but....

Well, I've gone from Liberty Landing marina (NJ) to Block. if I remember right, Lincoln Harbor is Weehawken, right ( 3-4m north of Liberty L)? If so, it's around 125NM assuming you head south on the Hudson, around the Battery, up the East R and out to LI sound. So at an actual 15K it's an 8-9 hour day assuming no stops.

If you were going to stop, I'd probably pick Pt Jefferson or, for a fairly long first day but a really nice and easy 2nd day, I'd go to Watch Hill, RI. From there it's a little 15-20NM cruise to Block.

Enjoy!

If you need a weather hole on your way up the sound, New Haven harbor has three breakwaters and pretty much always has a good lee behind one of them.

I've made the run several times from New Haven to both the Block area and to NYC. On a good day, both trips are about 3.5 - 4 hours, so you ought to be able to do it in 8 hrs. Try to catch a good outgoing tide in the sound, and hit The Race at low tide.

Give Ambrosia Mae a shout on 16 on your way by.

Thanks, gives a good perspective on what I thought. Now for the Slip. BTW, know when the hatteras Rendevous is up this aways?

Let's get back to the thread we hijacked.

Noel, when are you going to BI? We usually go at the end of July. How about a Rendezvous at BI, or eastern LI Greenport, Shelter IS?

Nick

My family and I will be at the Westerly (RI) Yacht Club around the last week of July. Great anchorages in "Little Narragansett" in by Watch Hill for a raft-up. We sometimes venture over to Block, so if you're there we'd love to meet you all.

Bob,

I will be at Watch Hill Docks the last weekend of July. I have the slip reserved for the first weekend in August too but not sure if I will be back up then. Maybe I will see you there.

Tom

As for the Diesel Problem, The TCM seems to have solved it for now. Hopefully i can get the boat out this weekend to fill the tank and pour the rest in. Planning a trip to AC this fall to have the Tank tapped unless one of you guys in the area know how to do this.

I'll look for you. I bring the boat out from New Haven, and my wife meets me with the car so we have wheels, and Watch Hill is a frequent stop. I'll post an itinerary once we firm up plans.

As I previously posted, I had received a letter from Boston Yacht Sales that Hatteras, after 14 years, is no longer going to be sponsoring the NE Rendezvous. I only attended the 2005 event along with people from approximately 35 other Hatteras and it was amazing. I wasn't able to attend the 2006 event, but was already looking forward to the 2007 event when I got the letter. I wish everyone could see the smiles on everyone's faces that participated that weekend. It didn't matter if your boat was from the 1960's or the 2000's, it was like a big family reunion. One young couple actually met at the 2004 Rendezvous when they came on each of their parents' boats and they were still going out at the 2006 event according to the pictures of attendees. The event was $300 per person, but included every meal, including some really nice dinners, entertainment and educational "classes" over the four day period. It was well worth it and I wish they were continued.

Nothing sells a new Hatteras faster than very happy current owners telling everyone they meet that it's not just a boat, it's a way of life. I'm not inferring that it's like the Sea Ray Owners Club, because I arrived in Newport after traveling 10 hours from the Sandy Hook, NJ area, with fairly dense fog in eastern Long Island Sound when other boats were waiting for the sun to burn it off and then went most of the way home with the same fog, but that's another story, including stupid bridge tenders.

well Sag Harbor is enroute

Any other "overnight destinations" we can look at this weekend? need to figger this out as I am going to lose the use of my right arm for awhile in about 2 weeks.

Noel

Stonington, CT is a great little town with very good transient accomodations.

Avondale marina in Westerly RI is nice; transient slips are limited.

Westerly Yacht club sometimes has transient slips.
