As I previously posted, I had received a letter from Boston Yacht Sales that Hatteras, after 14 years, is no longer going to be sponsoring the NE Rendezvous. I only attended the 2005 event along with people from approximately 35 other Hatteras and it was amazing. I wasn't able to attend the 2006 event, but was already looking forward to the 2007 event when I got the letter. I wish everyone could see the smiles on everyone's faces that participated that weekend. It didn't matter if your boat was from the 1960's or the 2000's, it was like a big family reunion. One young couple actually met at the 2004 Rendezvous when they came on each of their parents' boats and they were still going out at the 2006 event according to the pictures of attendees. The event was $300 per person, but included every meal, including some really nice dinners, entertainment and educational "classes" over the four day period. It was well worth it and I wish they were continued.
Nothing sells a new Hatteras faster than very happy current owners telling everyone they meet that it's not just a boat, it's a way of life. I'm not inferring that it's like the Sea Ray Owners Club, because I arrived in Newport after traveling 10 hours from the Sandy Hook, NJ area, with fairly dense fog in eastern Long Island Sound when other boats were waiting for the sun to burn it off and then went most of the way home with the same fog, but that's another story, including stupid bridge tenders.
