  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
45' CONVERTIBLE-Series II (1984 - 1992)
Does anyone know how far the trim tabs extend from fully retracted to fully extended? My trim tabs are factory on a 1989 45C. The tabs don't seem to push the bow down as much as they once did. The fluid level is fine but they only have about 1.5 inches of total travel. Both are the same and seem to operate fine other than it seems they don't have as much effect on the the bow angle even when fully down. Thanks for any input.

1 1/2” at the aft edge seems a little weak for lack of better word but that should have an effect when on plane, obviously not at hull speed.

Could fouling prevent the cylinder shafts from extending all the way? Also, could the cylinders be leaking internally, so they wouldn't extend all the way? If you have the original system, a call to Boat Leveler might be helpful.

Thanks for the suggestions, they are appreciated. No growth on them at all and no leakage as the fluid level has remained constant. I did talk with Bennett today and they were quite helpful. My hull was built after Hatteras switched from Boat Leveler to Bennett. I learned that the standard Bennett has a throw of 2.5 inches but they would build them to any length the oem specified. After talking to Hatteras it appears on my boat that Hatteras specified a 1 inch throw. May take a little more research to verify that 100% on my boat.

I guess they must be working properly after all, but sure didn't feel like it.

They do have an effect, just seemed like not as much as usual. Based on the latest info it seems they must be working as designed. When I checked and found how little travel they had I thought there must be an issue but apparently not.

Any new dunnage on board? Moved anything around?
In-law move some junk on board?? (Hate it when that happens).

How confidant that your whole hull is clean????

I have an ‘87 41C. Same issue. Last haul out I had the yard make a 1” block out of some core material as a spacer, bolted above the mount to the tab. It has worked well over the past 18 months. If i can find a pic I’ll post.

Haaa, no all the cargo has stayed pretty consistent. Without looking at the bottom myself I am pretty confident it is clean. I have used this dive company for years (as do most in the slips around me) without issues. I went down to the boat when I had him clean it the day before sea trial and expressed my desire that he do a thorough job, haa. Dirty bottom was my first suspect for sure.

I have heard of others doing this with good results. Going to strongly consider that for next haulout if I don't identify another issue. Thanks

Just to update this issue. I talked with Hatteras and on my particular boat/ hull number, (1989 45C) the tab movement is 1" so mine are working properly. The standard Bennett is 2 1/2" throw but Hatteras had them built for a 1" throw for this model from what I am told. Other models may vary.
