  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
58' YACHT FISHERMAN (1970 - 1981)
Hull is being painted 1971 58YF
The paint crew removed all 180 screws on the 15" x 7" Fuller brush trim rings and threw them away....
Now they need replacing
Size, Length, head type: Oval, flat countersunk ?

I wasn't there when they were removed or I would have kept some for reference. But, after 40 years in place they were ready to be replaced....

We replaced all of our portlights. We used #8 x 1" stainless, oval head screws on the trim rings. The new rings are not pre-drilled so we did not have to use the original holes.

One more thing: make sure the screws are square (Robertson) drive if you want to be authentic. Hatteras only used square drive on these 70's and 80's boats.

Ask SKY about coffee cans full of screws! ws

Being a purist is OK, but new SS screws ad a touch of shine where its needed most!

Sam's can ship you out the OEM square drive screws.

Can you let us know specifics on the paint job?

I am still trying to get my 58 done so am interested in what you were quoted and what level of job (taking every piece of hardware off etc.)

Also what paint (Awlgrip, Alexseal etc.)

Thanks in advance... love to see pics as they do the job as well.

Original Hatteras Robertson head screws were Monel, which hardly wear out at all. Modern ones are 18-8 stainless steel. If you can take the time, get 316 screws, which are more resistant to rust than 1808/304 stainless. And harder alloy as well. Try McMaster-Carr if Sam's doesn't have them, they have a lot of 316 SS hardware inc screws and bolts. They also have some Monel, which I think is overkill.

They look just like Hawaiin screws to me... ws

I second the recommendation to use 316 stainless screws. I put some 304 SS on my deck and had them bleeding rust if they didn't get rinsed daily.
