- 41' DOUBLE CABIN (1962 - 1965)
I just completed my summer cruise on my 41 DCMY, (6v53s). I cruised from Pt Darlington Ontario, to the St. Lawrence river, and then cruised the 1000 Islands up to Ivy Lea and back to home base.
Total fuel used: 157 gal. (596 Litres)
Total distance travelled: 230 miles
Fuel burn (mixed speeds-1500 rpm -2350 rpm, 8.1 knots-13.5 knots): 1.46 kts/gal.
Average speed : 8.15 kts @ 1500 rpm., fuel burn @ 5.5 gal/hr total, for both engines (2.5-3 gal/hr per engine)
I travelled most of the time at 8.15 kts, but each day, I got up on plane for 1/2 hr to burn of the excess crap. While on plane, speed was approx 12.4-13.5 kt/hr. depending on the wind and wave directions. The stbd engine would smoke a bit (white) for approx 5 minutes, then clear up. Port engine-no smoke at all.
No major engine problems, except for stbd tach cable giving up the ghost. Repair cost was $150.
I did burn off approx. 1/2 cup of coolant per engine.
All in all, a very pleasant and restful 3 weeks.
Regards
