My boat has a whirlpool trash compactor Maybe I've led a sheltered life but I have no idea how this thing works. Do you need special bags? Where do you get them? Do you put trash directly in the machine or bag or first acumulate it somewhere else? I'm sure some of you guys have these any help would be apreciated.

Get compactor bags at Walmart. Use it just like a regular trash can. When it starts to fill up, push the button and smash it down. It's the same thing we all do without a compactor. We just mash it with our hand or foot to try to get more in there. You just have the automated version.

See, I keep telling my wife this when she "directs" me to take out the trash. :D

I have one on the boat, it's great. When cruising offshore, it's worth it's weight in gold.
The sell the bags at these things called "grocery stores". I went into one once with my wife. They sell food there! (but you have to prepare it yourself  )

The nerve of these grocery stores. At least in Sams Club Stores you can fill up on samples on the weekends. :D

I always use compactor bags instead of regular bags, they never beak, even when u through them on the dock. They fit nicely in the tall kitchen waste buckets. 14$ for 40 bags at the depot.

Just put something clean and dry on top before you "smash it down"!

The ram can get pretty nasty and smelly if you let it crush against "wet" trash. Finally, a use for all of those plastic grocery bags!
