  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
45' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1968 - 1975)
Picture is not of my boat, just using a pic from an old 53 in boat yard as an example.
I'm thinking this recess wouldn't be too difficult to retrofit to my transom. Instead of reinventing everything just use the design hatteras used on hundreds of boats. Wouldn't look redneck, plus no appendages hanging off the boat to snag or get destroyed. Does anyone know if this recess is solid fiberglass? the transom is cored on all hatts I believe, but it makes sense to me that this recessed area was only part of the outer skin mold and the coring stops at the sides of the recess. If this is the case, does anyone know how thick the glass is in the area, especially the canted top where the tab actuator mounts and the hydraulic line penetrates into the hull? My second question, are the tab actuators on the majority of Hatts made by Bennett and by extension the entire system? The one in the picture looks like it is a Bennett.

My boat is a 1971 model, and the tab system is made by Boat Leveler, who are in St Louis, or were. They may still be in business. Of course, some may have been refit with Bennett or Lenco tabs.

Just glassed my recessed tabs in and installed bigger tabs on the transom. We filled in that recess for the cylinders. They were Bennetts.

The recess did not look to be cored. It was probably at least 1/2 thick where the cylinder mounted at the top, maybe 3/4.

you needed more lift due to the added power or was the original tab just too small from day one? Did you consider the interceptor type trimming systems? I'm still on the fence with using those products, zipwake and humphree. I have the furuno SCX20 gps sensor which with its six axis location info would really make the instant trim/roll control adjustability of the interceptors come alive. Only problem, is the interceptor type able to bring its reputed benefits to my boat which maxes at 22 knots on a good day. The boats the interceptors are installed on frequently are much faster than old hatts. I don't want to employ old tech when new is available but at the same time is the new tech superfluous for my application? Hard info on interceptors is hard to come by and of course the manufacturer will state with a completely straight face its the best thing since sliced bread.

Both. Tabs were too small originally and need more tab at the higher speeds. The zipwakes were not in consideration as I didnt' know how they would work with the existing stabilizers. The new setup will bury the bow now if I put them all the way down. Very happy with them.

My performance is probably close to yours, topping out around 23kts.

Thats a really clean install. What material was used for the mounting block that straightens out the transom? Thanks for the picture, its helpful.
