transmission service Twin Disc MG-506

I am servicing the transmissions on my 1979 43' DB for the first time since I've owned her. She has Twin Disc MG-506 transmissions. I went to remove the screens and oops....no screens there, so I ordered two from Twin Disc. They are 1-1/2" tall but they have to fit in a 3/4" deep space !!!! I questioned Twin Disc who told me to "crush the screens to fit" !!! This sounded very fishy, and I called back and asked again. They insisted this was the way to install the screens. I am still not satisifed with that answer and have not reassembled. IS THERE ANYBODY OUT THERE WHO SERVICES THEIR OWN TRANSMISSIONS AND HAS DONE THE "SQUISH METHOD" WITH THE SCREEN.....OR DO I HAVE THE WRONG SCREEN? PLEASE SEND HELP!

George .... my screens were only slightly crushed when I removed them for servicing. They were maybe 1/8 inch too long. Get the serial numbers off of your tranny's and call TwinDisc. I too ordered screens for mine as a precaution when I first cleaned them and they sent me screens that were way too long also. Since my screens were intact and looked "good as new" I just cleaned them and reinstalled and sent the wrong ones back for a credit.
