I just got both my Hydreco pumps back from Acadian, rebuilt. Screens cleaned, new oil levels correct. Stbd Pressure less than 100 but tranny shifts into both fwd and reverse, but I am worried whether it will stay in forward at high RPM's. all threads I can find talk about adjusting pressure with transmission warmed up at 1500 RPM. I am afraid to get underway with marginal pressure. Can I just adjust the pressure up a little while cold at idle at the dock, then run and see where it settles in at temperature. Thanks John

John,
Get the engines heated up at the dock first.
The transmission's oil is cooled through the engine heat exchangers.
This means once the engines are at operating temperature the transmission oil will also be pretty close to there operating temperature as well. It is done this way by design.

After that you can get the transmission oil pressure pretty close before you go out.

That's barely enough pressure for forward. Check the reading again as it's possible the gauge is messed up.

We had a bad seal in a hydreco from them a while back. Pumped the trans oil to the engine and pressure was low. Check for oil traveling to the engine.

John are you relying on the gauge"s in the helm or do you have ones mounted on the tranny? My pressure was at 200 on the helm which scared me to death. I added gauges directly out of the tranny to find that both were really at 125.

Thanks Tim, I wasn't sure I could get things warm enough at the dock without running under load, so thanks for confirming that I can. Rusty, I do not have engine room gauges, just relying on what helm gauges read before which was about 120 to 130 even when the pump was leaking like crazy. John

Get a portable gauge on the port. You cant rely on remote gauges. especially electrical and old.

Or a SW mechanical. Fairly cheap and permanent.
