The rear main seal on the port 6V92 leaks a little (in spite of the PO replacing it) and of course this ends up raising the level of the Allison M15. I need to remove a couple of quarts over the period of a 1200 mile trip and have simply disposed of it. However one individual suggested pumping it back to the main that it came from. Is this a bad idea? Saves storing oil until a disposal facility can be reached.

Used Oil in a several thousand dollar engine??? You do the math.

A much bigger concern to me would be dirty engine oil in the trannie, which is used to having clean oil. The mixture that goes back into the engine is going to be cleaner than what's in there already.
This a problem I'd want to get fixed ASAP.

If you need to replace the rear seal that of course means you'll have to pull the gear and flywheel to get to it. If you have to lift the gear out of the engine room then the question becomes, whether to have the gear rebuilt, seals etc.

If you can leave the gear in engine room then replacing the rear seal is a snap, providing that it is replaced using the special tool for that purpose. If someone trys to just tap into place then there is a good chance it will leak even if new.
