Hatteras Model
38' CONVERTIBLE-Series II (1987 - 1991)
I have an oil leak at the top of my Twin Disc MG507 where the front and back case are bolted together. I talked to Twin Disc and there is no gasket an adhesive was used. I would like to use a sealer to try and stop the leak from the outside any recommendations on what to use. I was thinking JB weld or Marine Tex gluvit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would not expect any product to seal it from the outside - at least not for very long.

OTOH, why not give it try if you don't want to split the cases, it can't hurt anything. You could try any of the sealing products but the problem will be getting the surfaces totally clean of oil. No matter what you do to clean it, there will still be oil at the joint surfaces so the chance of effective sealing is not good.

I have seen JB weld fix holes in transmissions that are still leak-free 20 years later BUT these were repaired with the part removed/thoroughly cleaned/degreased.

Of course, whatever you use you also have to consider the appearance of a bunch of glop slopped on the joint area... :)
