Hatteras Model
56' MOTOR YACHT (1981 - 1984)
Our 56 hatteras has Allision M transmissions and are due for an oil change. Any suggestions for the best way to remove the oil?

I just did mine, many suggested to put a little hose down the dip stick hole. I could not get a hose that small. So I removed the dip stick adapter plug and then had a big hole. I used a small vane pump with a half inch hose. Took a bit to get it primed but then it sucked it all out in no time. I then managed to remove the little drain plug under the output flange and was suprised that only few drops remain. The manual suggests to fill gear box with 10 weight oil, run for ten or so minutes, running thru the gears a couple times, drain again and fill with correct oil. Mine is the same as the engine (40 weight)

good luck and bring a few rags :p

I had no problem using a hand-pump like oil-boy through the dipstick hole. Just get it hot first.

I have M15's and simply put a hose over the dip stick pipe and suck it out with an impeller pump. It takes 2 gallons to refill so I guess I'm getting most of it out.

AGREE - M series Allisons are made with the dip stick tube long enough to suck out the old oil.
Get a hand pump with an intake hose that fits over the dipstick tube. Then refill with 10 wt oil and run for 10 minutes, including some in and out of gear (even at the dock), suck out the 10 wt. oil and refill with the correct 40 wt oil.
