Are these hoses under high pressure ? How often should they be replaced.Mine are original 1981.When I had other engine room hoses replaced a few years ago these were not done Ian W 53 MY

You betcha. I have Twin Disc gears and they run at 300-400 psi. I just replaced all my hoses. If one of those blows, you will have a huge mess on your hands.

I would say to do it sooner rather than later.

Replace them if there is any doubt, which it sounds like there is. I have had a transmission oil pressure gauge line blow, and having hot 40wt oil all over the place is NOT what you want.

You can go to any Parker or aeroquip dealer and they can make them for you. When I did mine I requested brass fittings to avoid rust and that took a week to order them in. Just tell them it's hot oil and the pressure and they will know what hose to use. Bring the old hoses and they will match the lengths.

The fittings are probably reusable and if in good condition you just order the hose, cut it to length (you'll need a GOOD hacksaw to do so), flush it out to get any pieces of crud out of the bore and remove the fittings from the old hose and put it on the new.

If the fittings are swaged on then this doesn't work but most Hatts were made up with the reusable ones; I changed out all my engine and gear oil hoses when I had Gigabite and it didn't take all that long to do.

While you're looking check the distribution block where the oil pressure sender is. There's a little stub hose on many of these engines that goes to the gallery from that block and it is often overlooked as it's hard to see. Mine were original, hard as a rock (the internal wire had long since broken down) and had still-somewhat-legible build tags on them. Easily missed and not good if you do overlook it and then it fails.
