Transmission fluid Qty

Need to know the fluid qty in a 1976 58' yacht fisher with 8V71T engines.

Don't know what gear set you have. MG514C with shallow case is 6 gallons.

8V71s usually had Allison M20 but I don’t remember how much they used.

Edit. Local DD website says M20 takes 6.5 quarts plus external circuit

You beat me to it Robert. Unless you were a little low. Note, it you put the transmissions into forward and it doesn’t engage you don’t have enough oil.

Just so you know it wasn’t me. However, I have a friend that launched his boat after four years on the hard. When he check the transmission fluid it said fall. What he didn’t do was check the fluid after it was running. We pulled away using bow and stern thruster and found he didn’t have forward. The only thing he had to maneuver the boat was reverse and the bow and stern thruster. We were able to make our way back to the dock. When we checked the transmission fluid it needed one and a half gallons more before the transmissions would engage.

He said he checked it a couple of months prior to putting it back in the water. I truly think he was mistaken.There were no leaks no oil anywhere. I think he just either miss read it or thought he checked it.
