"Amy Winehouse's struggles to quit drugs were well documented. But her family fears that sudden abstinence from alcohol might have been what led to her death last Saturday at age 27, according to a report. "

We owe it to her memory to ensure we do not succumb to the dangers involved in having insufficient alcohol in our bodies..

I'm honoring her at this very moment by drinking and listening to "Rehab." No, No NO!

To quote Maxwell Smart, on hearing "I find that hard to believe..."

"Would you believe....?"

This is medically unlikely. It's sad that she died, as she had a short and unhappy life, but it isn't as if there isn't evidence that this sort of behavior is BAD FOR YOU. She made her choices- bad ones. I find it hard to believe that sudden withdrawal was the cause of her death, although I suppose it's possible. Maybe there will be a postmortem and some kind of explanation.

In the meantime, Mike, no matter how much you drink, no one will mistake you for Amy Winehouse. You are totally safe in that regard. Unless you start wearing eyeshadow, in which case you're on your own.

I guess she went "Back to Black." I doubt the lack of alcohol was more of a problem than the heroin. Sad to see such a gifted person waste away and join the "27 Club."

Your going to need a lot of tattoos and much longer hair.

I'm sure that's true, Jim. But I'm not takin' any chances! :)

Shoot, I'll drink to that! Cheers!!!

Everyone knows Amy Winehouse died.

Who are Justin Allen 23, Brett Linley 29, Matthew Weikert 29, Justus Bartett 27, Dave Santos 21, Jesse Reed 26, Matthew Johnson 21, Zachary Fisher 24, Brandon King 23, Christopher Goeke 23, and Sheldon Tate 27? They are Marines that gave their lives this week for you. There is no media for them... not even a mention of their names.

This was posted to Facebook this morning by Judy Willingham, a friend from Piney Narrows Yacht Haven. I credit this post to Judy and post it in honor of the fallen Marines mentioned, while raising my glass to Amy.

Well said, Eric.

I bought lunch at BWI for 13 marines on their way to the middle east when I was flying back here from Piney in June; I would not have bought Amy's lunch.

Good for you Mike!!! So many people say they support the troops but do nothing. Having a son who just left monday for his 5th deployment I can tell you that the guys over there apreciate the personal direct involvment of people. There are plenty of adopt a soldier programs. Even saving up magazines and books are apreciated. My wife is a "blue star mom" and they coordinate sending stuff over. A few years ago they sent over a ton of Beanie Babys. The guys were handing them out to the kids in exchange for intel. You just never know what they need.

Amy had a choice. She made many bad decisions. Like the loss of so many great musicians ( I don't place her among them) like Hendrix, Joplin and Morrison I see the loss but compared to the loss of the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughn, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Buddy Holly and Richie Valenzuela who all died by means other than their own hand. There is no comparison. They all were taken from us while the OD's ( which I consider a form of suicide) went on their own.

If you can't deal with life at least find safer drugs.

One of my pet peeves is the "I support our troops" stickers on cars and that sticker constitutes the "support." I certainly don't claim buying lunch is any real support but it was one of the best 256 bucks I've spent in a long time.

I did not make it known who bought their lunch. I just had the waitress put it on my bill, paid it and left before they were finished.

Previously at BWI I tried to buy some Army guys (who were bound for Iraq) drinks at the bar and was shocked to be told by them that they were not allowed to drink now that they were officially "on duty" in Iraq. It's a different Army from the one I was in! ;)

Rehab is for quitters.

And Jim, don't be so sure. We had an old codger at my yacht club years ago who consumed a quart of cheap whiskey daily. His doctor told him on no uncertain terms that he had to quit or he was going to die. Period. He quit cold turkey for 2 weeks and dropped stone dead. Maybe he would have anyway, but I truly believe that his system couldn't take the shock of no alcohol.

Either way, I'm not taking any chances. As Willie Nelson says, "There's more old drunks than there are old doctors, so I guess I'm gonna have another round."
