To be Loonie is Good!

The Canadian Dollar, called the Loonie, has or is about to pass the US Dollar on the exchange rate. How bout that? (aplogies to Mel Allen...)

Yep, 2cd time in 12 months too; good for me because I represent USA manufacturer's and import into Canada paying them with loonies! Bad for our exporters though, our gov't will devalue our $ somehow.

As a side note: the CANADIAN WINTER IS OVER!!!
This winter season we saw the least amount of percipitation (snow) and our overall temperature was 4 deg. C. higher than any other year in the past 65 years.

Then why may I ask, since I have been conservative in heating my home for the past 3 yrs, decreasing natural gas consumption by 6%, did my overall heating cost raise by 2% for the number of loonies paid?

There is one principal reason that energy costs go up as you described above, it defies any logic, but then most economic issues are not logical. The reason is simply "because they can".

The Cdn. dollar goes up but as it does, so also does the price of gas. I'll take a .90 dollar in exchange for lower prices at the pumps.
The last time the Cdn dollar was at par, we were looking at a financial meltdown.
