Tiffany Yachts at Glebe Point on the Great Wicomico River in Virginia burnt down yesterday. Tiffany is a three generation yacht builder (excellent yachts). They are also an excellent repair facility on the Chesapeake Bay. Two of the three main buildings down by the water are gone. They lost a large railway shed and the main building with all their power tools and offices. Fortunately no one was hurt.

Three or four boats were destroyed. Two or three were in the railway sheds that burnt including a new Tiffany being custom built. Another 50 foot Tiffany was probably totaled as it was on the hard next to the fire.

I looked up this company, very nice boats. the 56 sf looks like a 70's hatteras hull with a slight flair added to the bow.

In this economy that could kill the company. especially if they are under insured.

I guess it could also save a company if they are over insured.

It's Bush's fault.

A burning bush?

Oh, that's BAD... hahahahaha

Global warming started the fire!

On another subject, a local go green business, selling solar and wind power "stuff" went belly up.

I had to laugh.

This is really sad. For years, the Tiffany (Cockrell) family has brought their family boats (and a LOT of people) to the Urbanna Oyster Festival and the boats are a site for the eyes. They are known for their craftsmanship in the Northern Neck of Virginia for 80 years. I hope they can recover.

Here's a link to some local news that includes an interview with Mr. Tiffany Cockrell.

Can't imagine how the family must feel about the loss. Small boat building companies have enough things working against them.
I think about Huckins Boat Yard next to me and if that was to happen to them. You now have Cindy, the grand daughter of the founder running the company and her daughter went to college and now training to take over when the time comes.
But a fire like that..............
