Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
The search is over. Planning to close on a 1988 31 Tiara Open with 6bta's Monday. It has been fun looking at boats without Naiads, 1 head, 1 AC unit, 1 sink and the list goes on. This one was repowered in 1997 and has 600 hours since. Loved the Hatt, just getting to old to keep up with everything. And of course I can wash and wax this in a weekend.

Ugg. How old are you? I bought my 48 when I was 70, now 79 and still kicking. I did a 400 mile cruise last two weeks with a gent who is 85 and has a 1973 Hatt 38MY.

Seriously, good luck with the new boat, but please don't tell us about 'too old'. I'm trying to act young.:)

Congrats, Tiara makes a nice boat as well. We owned a 33 Flybridge we just sold last year and it never let us down. The quality was good, it rode well for it's size and the cockpit was Huge. I'd say nearly half the boat was cockpit, yet it still had a nice roomy interior.

Good thread... Fred, good luck with your new boat. Bob, you are not a typical 79 yr old. (neither am I.. I still look at young women, but I forgot why). Still trying to figure out what I want to do when I grow up...lol

I'll never grow up. My father (78) has a 31 tiara like that with 200 hp yanmars. Little 4 cylinder engines and he loves it. Spends more time boating than most people half his age. I want to be like him.

They are great little boats. Enjoy her.

Walt, the only young woman that I look at has just finished cleaning up the galley before we go out to see a movie.....her name is Gayle;)

I'll be 62 next year. It's still possible to do everything on the boat, just not as fun as it used to be. Our boat usage has turned more to fishing. This boat is supposedly going to average 1.5 nm per gallon at 24 knots. That will get me offshore and back with fuel to spare. Other than sailing between the Hawaiian Islands in my 20's this will be my first Blue Water adventure in a boat. It's another item on the "Bucket List" . Catch a Mahi or Tuna from my own boat.

My father bought a 31 Tiara when they first came out. I ran that boat all over the place up and down the coast in Florida. It is a great boat. Much, much drier than the 36 Tiara which was not as a good a boat. You have chosen wisely.

My dad had a 36 and a 43open. The 43 was a much better boat. I used it and worked on it quite a bit. It was well built but they didn't keep it long as they got tired of living down in a hole. They were older and thought like you, Fred. Smaller, less work, and easier to handle, but as it turned out, they really missed the Hatt and the Gulfstar MY. Hope this one works for you. Good luck.

Bob,

You still have lust in your heart whenever Gayle walks by.....lucky dawg...
